Del Potro comeback cut short in Miami

Juan Martín del Potro has made an early exit from the Miami Masters, going down in straight sets to Vasek Pospisil in what was his first official match since undergoing another round of surgery on his injured left wrist.

Del Potro bowed out in the first round at Indian Wells 6-4, 7-6 to the Canadian, making a losing start to his comeback following two months on the sidelines.

The former world No. 4 had chances in both sets, but wasted break points early on before Pospisil took the advantage. In the second, the Tandíl native was a break up and also enjoyed two set points in the tie-break, but could not consolidate and ended up on the losing side of the encounter.

The Argentine missed the entire 2014 campaign after going under the knife, and was forced to operate again on his wrist at the start of 2015 as he dropped out of the Australian Open. That inactivity has seen the 2009 US Open winner drop as low as 616th in the ATP rankings.
