Interior and Transport Minister and presidential hopeful for the ruling Victory Front (FpV) Florencio Randazzo has compelled fellow candidates to the presidency Daniel Scioli, Mauricio Macri and Sergio Massa to reveal their thoughts on the Media Law, while demanding an “independent justice system” to probe the Papel Prensa case.
Talking about media’s influence on society, Randazzo wondered what were the Buenos Aires City Mayor, the Buenos Aires governor, and the former Tigre Mayor’s thoughts on the Media Law, which was “voted by Congress in search of a more democratic society.”
Then, the Interior and Transport Minister aimed at the Papel Prensa case. In 1976, Papel Prensa, Argentina’s largest newsprint manufacturer was purchased by the Clarín Group and La Nación following alleged threats to its owners.
“Every dictatorial process in Argentina had links with the civil society. This is what we need to discuss,” Randazzo said.
“We have to investigate what happened to Papel Prensa. I want an independent justice system that does not respond to corporate interests, that only answers to the people,” he stated.
