President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has said she is “not surprised” the state of Israel was not involved in the Israeli Embassy bombing probe as plaintiff, while questioning the consulate for changing the date to pay homage to the victims of the 1992 terrorist attack.
Through her personal website, Ms Kirchner recalled the meeting she had on Tuesday with survivors of the bombing and family members of the victims, as well as plaintiff attorneys Rita Jana and Ignacio Irurzun.
“It was them who told me Israel did not participate in the probe as plaintiff,” CFK said, adding she was “not surprised.”
Meanwhile, the Head of State revealed Israeli Ambassador Dorit Shavit invited her to the homage the consulate has organized for Thursday, and asked her to give a speech.
“I apologized through the Secretary General to the Presidency and told the people that were with me [meaning survivors of the bombing and family members of the victims] that, in fact, for me, there was only one date for the homage: March 17,” she said.
Ms Kirchner justified her absence in the ceremony saying she is due to travel to Santa Cruz province to participate in official rallies on Friday. Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández, Justice Minister Julio Alak and Deputy Foreign Minister Eduardo Zuaín will represent the government in her place.
