A hat-trick from Gonzalo Higuaín gave Napoli a vital victory over Dinamo Moscow, putting the Italians 3-1 up in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash in San Paolo.
The Russian club had taken an early advantage when Kevin Kuranyi struck after just two minutes. But guided by the scoring exploits of ‘Pipita’, Napoli struck back with a vengeance to take a partial victory.
The Argentina international hit in the 25th minute and put his club into the lead just after the half hour as he converted from the penalty spot. A wonderful volley sealed his hat-trick after 55 minutes, securing a two goal lead to take to the Russian capital.
Elsewhere, Rodrigo Palacio gave Inter the lead away to Wolfsburg but the ex-Boca man could not help his side, who eventually went down 3-1, stay in touch against the German outfit. Villarreal’s Luciano Vietto also found the score-sheet, hitting the Yellow Submarine’s only goal as they went down to Liga rivals Sevilla.
