Uruguayan ex president José “Pepe” Mujica, who left office on Sunday, when president elected Tabaré Vázquez assumed the office, has taken oath as Senator today minutes after 9.30 am, in the first session chaired by Raúl Sendic, the country’s new Vicepresident.
Mujica also plans to take a crucial role in his wife’s campaign for Montevideo mayorship. Lucía Topolansky is running for office in the May 10 local elections.
“Mujica will endorse Topolansky in her campaign launching on Saturday,” sources from the candidate’s campaign staff said. “He will attend several events,” they added.
