Serena Williams: ‘I am happy to be in Argentina

US tennis player Serena Williams, ranked number one in the Women’s Tennis Association chart has said she feels “happy” to return to Argentina, as the current Australian Open champion visits the South American country to play against the local team in a Fed Cup match.

“I am happy to return to Argentina. I was eager to visit Buenos Aires once more and I hope the people enjoy the game,” said Serena in relation to the match versus Argentina for the Fed Cup World Group II that will be played during this weekend in Pilar.

Local fans gathered today at the Pilar Tennis Club to watch their idol practice before the game. The presence of Williams has forced the club’s authorities to adapt the court’s capacity from 500 to 2,500 people.

“I am going through a stage in my life where I can enjoy tennis, travels and competitions,” the youngest of the Williams sisters told reporters.

Both Serena and Venus Williams visited Argentina in 2013 to play an exhibition match in Buenos Aires.

The other members of the US team are Coco Vandeweghe and Taylor Townsend, while Paula Ormaechea (121 in the world), María Yrigoyen (197), Nadia Podoroska (386), and Tatiana Búa will play for Argentina.

“Ranking is not a big influence in Fed Cup matches. We are taking this game seriously while trying to adapt to clay courts,” Serena said.

The winner between Argentina and the US will play a promotion match for World Group I
