AFIP: January tax revenue up 30.1%

The Federal Public Incomes Administration (AFIP) revenue agency has announced that total tax income for January reached a figure of 117.46 billion pesos, 30.1 percent higher than the same period in 2014.

AFIP chief Ricardo Echegaray revealed the latest tax data today in a press conference. Income taxes, social security contributions and levies on credit and debit card transactions were the sectors which saw the biggest increases compared to January last year, according to agency’s president.

«The revenue figure is a positive one taking into account the objectives set for 2015,» Echegaray told reporters, alongside Finance secretary Juan Carlos Pezoa.

Echegaray explained that the total exceeded predictions for the first month of the year by 1.5 percent, after the AFIP had forecast takings of 115 billion for January.

For the tax chief, the figures showed «a strong consolidation in economic activity with interannual growth,» marking «extremely positive progress» in several revenue sectors, such as income tax and value-added tax.
