Following criticism from opposition lawmakers against Security Secretary Sergio Berni for arriving at Alberto Nisman’s apartment the night of his death before the judicial authorities -possibly altering the crime scene-, Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich and Secretary to the Presidency Aníbal Fernández defended the secretary’s actions and called to wait for the results of the judicial investigation.
In his daily press briefing at the government house, Capitanich said that Berni was only fulfilling his obligations, “thoroughly” monitoring the implementation of the protocols on the scene at Nisman’s apartment.
Fernández in his turn also pointed out that the security secretary was “ensuring the compliance of all protocols.” He said that “sometimes desperation can lead to the contamination of the crime scene” but “that is not what happened in this case.”
He hailed the secretary’s work, saying that he guaranteed an “ideal situation for forensic analysts to work.” Fernández explained that a Federal Police expert managed to put his hand through the bathroom door (which was blocked by Nisman’s body) and filmed the entire crime scene without contamining it. “He showed (the video) to the judge and the prosecutor and after that they entered (the bathroom),” Fernández added.
The Kirchnerite officials also ratified the remarks by Intelligence Office’s head Oscar Parrilli who yesterday denied that the men mentioned in Nisman’s complaint as former Intelligence agents involved in the coverup of the 1994 AMIA bombing -along with president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and other political leaders- were members of the Intelligence Office.
Fernández also dismissed Nisman’s accusations and said that the men in question, Allan Héctor Bogado and Héctor Yrimia were “influence peddlers, frauds.”
Capitanich reiterated the government’s support to the Judiciary in the investigation of Nisman’s death and called to “respect the judicial process.” He said that the Executive is cooperating with the investigation with “maximum levels of transparency.”
“Intelligence Secretary (Oscar Parrilli) is fulfilling his duties just like Security Secretary Sergio Berni,” the chief of ministers added.
