Blue-chip dollar jumps 29 cents, parallel unchanged

The informal rate of the US currency, the so called «blue» dollar, was unchanged today, staying at 13.62 pesos in underground foreign exchange houses amid enhanced government controls in the illegal market.

The biggest mover was the blue-chip swap rate, which leapt 29 cents to close at 12.45 pesos. The stock exchange rate was up by four cents at 12.45 pesos, falling back after rising as high as 12.66 early in trading.

Meanwhile, the US dollar closed unchanged at 8.615 pesos in Buenos Aires City banks and foreign exchange offices, after climbing another half a cent yesterday. The Central Bank took advantage of a docile trading day to buy US$10 million, keeping the market stable.

In the first couple of weeks of 2015 it has climbed 5 cents.

The gap between the two rates was at 58%.
