Following yesterday’s historic renewal of bilateral relations between the US and Cuba, Bolivia’s president Evo Morales joined his South American counterparts who have praised the breakthrough as a Cuban victory. He hailed the “perseverence” and “unity” of the Cuban people and the international support.
Morales, a strong ally of Havana, said that December 17th will from now on be remembered as the day in which Cuba “bowed the US as a result of the unity of the entire world.”
He said that Washington “was forced” to begin the talks. “If there was an US blockade to Cuba, the entire world isolated the US because in several votes on the embargo, everyone was with Cuba, except Israel and some Island out there,” Morales said.
The Bolivian leader said that only “three or two countries have supported the US” in its policy on Cuba.
Morales pointed out that the normalization of bilateral relations “is no one’s concession” but the result of “the fight and unity of the Cuban people and the peoples of the world.”
