Senator Aníbal Fernández has confirmed that he will resign his seat in the Upper House, after being named to President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s cabinet as the new presidential secretary.
«Yes, I will step down. Us men do things properly,» he told reporters, who asked whether the former Cabinet Chief would step down from the Senate or take license from the job. Tomorrow will be his final session as a senator.
Fernández is expected to be replaced by the current Mercosur ambassador Juan Manuel Abal Medina, although it is still not known when he will assume Senate functions.
