Lower House committee sends Civil Code fast-track for voting

The Lower House’s Constitutional Affairs committee has approved the plan to move forward the implementation of the Civil Code, which will now be voted on by the full chamber having previously been passed by the Senate.

The proposal was debated by the committee headed by Victory Front politician Diana Conti, with government lawmakers able to carry through the motion to put the new law into action on August 1 2015.

According to Lower House sources, FpV allies will try to bring the issue to the Lower House in a special session next Tuesday. Lawmakers from the PRO, Renewal Front and Civic Coalition, meanwhile, will present their own resolutions to mark their opposition to the fast-tracking.

If deputies vote in favour of the proposal, the new Civil Code will be implemented from next August onwards, moving forward the starting date of January 1 2016 written into the original bill.
