New judicial setback puts Moreno closer to standing trial

A Buenos Aires City court has rejected an appeal by the defence of Guillermo Moreno with the ex domestic trade secretary now closer to be sitting on the dock to be judge for abuse of authority in an oral and public trial.

The 2nd courtroom of the Federal Court ruled today as “inadmissible” an appeal seeking to have the decision to send Moreno to trial by the Federal Court of Penal Cassation revised.

Current economic attaché in Argentina’s embassy in Rome Moreno has been prosecuted for “abuse of authority” in a case involving fines he sanctioned with private-sector consultant agencies for disclosing inflation data that contradicted figures by the INDEC statistics bureau.

Moreno’s legal representatives will be able to turn to the Federal Court of Penal Cassation issuing a remedy of complaint. Still, today’s ruling has also paved the way for the judge to send the case to an oral court.
