Just two days before the Superclásico clash against Boca Juniors that will define the Copa Sudamericana semi-final, River Plate coach Marcelo Gallardo has been rocked by the passing of his mother at the age of 55.
Gallardo was absent from the club’s training session today in Ezeiza, as he grieved the loss of Ana following a long fight against illness. The coach’s mother had been hospitalised several weeks ago due to a fight against cancer.
Following today’s practice the River first-team visited Gallardo in order to pay their respects, while social media sites were filled with tributes to the coach and his family. Gallardo is expected to rejoin activity with the club tomorrow.
