‘Blue’ dollar jumps to 13.15 pesos amid AFIP crackdown

The so called “blue” dollar regained ground today, trading 50 cents higher and closing at 13.15 pesos, after yesterday’s 45-cent plunge, pushed by growing fear of government inspections and sanctions in the parallel market.

The hike took place amid a crackdown by AFIP tax bureau against 71 banks, foreign exchange offices and stockbrokers in Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Córdoba. Today’s raid follows the suspension of import companies accused of fraudulent activities by AFIP yesterday.

Meanwhile, the official rate of the US currency traded unchanged at 8.52 pesos after earlier gains in Buenos Aires City banks and foreign exchange offices. The gap between the official rate and the «blue» is at 54.3%.

The Central Bank bought u$s 90 millions yesterday, raising its reserves to u$s 28,156 millions.

The blue-chip swap rate dropped 23 cents to 12.55 pesos, while the stock exchange rate lost 14 cents and cosed at 12.70 pesos.
