Informal rate falls to 13.50 pesos; blue-chip swap rate down

The informal rate of the US currency dropped 10 cents to close at 13.50 pesos, and has fallen 78 cents in just five days during November. Yesterday the ‘blue’ dollar sank 30 cents amid fear of renewed government controls on underground exchange houses.

With the latest losses in value, the gap between the official and parallel currencies once more tightened, to 58.4 percent.

The blue-chip swap rate dropped 21 cents to 12.98 pesos, following yesterday’s 19-cent fall. The stock exchange rate fell 17 cents to 13.30 pesos.

The official US dollar closed unchanged at 8.52 pesos in Buenos Aires City banks and foreign exchange offices. The Central Bank took an active role in trading, finishing the day having purchased a total of 40 million dollars.
