Capitanich denounces ‘economic terrorism’ in Lower House briefing

Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich launched a fierce attack on groups practicing what he dubbed «economic terrorism», and asked the Lower House to set up a bicameral group investigating illegal financial activities during his monthly address to the chamber.
The politician focused on so-called «speculative groups» in today’s briefing, accusing those responsible of «under-invoicing operations» for imports and exports in order to stop the entry of foreign currency into Argentina.
Capitanich pointed the finger at various companies who, in his words, «use the under-invoicing system for their exports in order to avoid the entry of foreign currency, and for imports to evade taxes.»
The former Chaco governor addressed the Lower House of Congress to brief lawmakers on the federal government’s actions. This is his eighth consecutive report to legislators in compliance with article 101 of the national Constitution, and the last briefing due in 2014.
“We have been asked 6,751 questions,” Capitanich said earlier today in his daily press conference at the government house earlier today. “There have been around 50 hours of briefing,” he specified.
Capitanich’s recent visits to Congress have been marked by tension with opposition lawmakers who have repeatedly abandoned their seats in protest against Vicepresident Amado Boudou’s judicial indictments.
