President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has completed her first day in the Otamendi hospital after falling ill with a bacterial infection, according to a report released by the presidential Medical Unit.
The report added that the predicted diagnosis of sigmoiditis, an infection of the colon, had been confirmed by medical examination.
Cristina’s physicians, Marcelo Ballesteros and Daniel Fernández, released the update this evening through presidential spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro, who informed that the head of state «is in a stable condition, she will remain in hospital with antibiotic treatment, under observation and following the progress of the tests carried out.»
Scoccimarro had earlier confirmed that a meeting with Chile’s Michele Bachelet scheduled for tomorrow had been suspended due to Ms. Kirchner’s illness.
Both leaders were to meet tomorrow in Buenos Aires and to hold a videoconference together with Pope Francis from Rome, to mark the 30th anniversary of the peace agreement signed between Argentina and Chile over the Beagle Channel with papal mediation.
