María Julia Alsogaray corruption trial starts

The sixth corruption trial against former Secretary of Natural Resources María Julia Alsogaray has started in the N°6 Oral Federal Court, presided by judges Julio Panelo, José Martínez Sobrino and María del Carmen Roqueta.

Alsogaray is being charged for corruption together with former sub secretary Enrique «Quique» Kaplan and architects Arturo Bignoli and Santiago Bignoli, following accusations by prosecutor Sabrina Namer and the anti-corruption office (OA).

According to the accusations, Alsogaray and Kaplan benefited from remodeling works carried out in the Natural Resources Secretariat building.

They allegedly signed various contracts for the works to be done directly by Bignoli’s company, without inviting tenders, and overcharged the works by 88 to 192 percent.

Alsogaray and Kaplan are being accused of mismanagement against the state, while the Bignolis are accused of being participants in the crime.

The former Carlos Menem official has already got three other sentences against her: two for corruption in the Natural Resources Secretariat and in former ENTEL Communications Company, and the other one for illicit enrichment.

Two weeks ago, Alsogaray was absolved in another corruption case in ENTEL.
