President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff has affirmed that she will promote reform and the changes requested by voters, who returned her to office in a narrow victory, but that such reform would only occur after extensive dialogue with all political, economic and social sectors.
«We have to understand that in every democracy there is a message for change in an election. The message I have received from voters is that, although I was right in some things I have to improve and do more,» the head of state said today in an interview with Record.
«There were two messages: change and reform.»
In her first public appearance after defeating presidential challenger Aecio Neves with final results of 51.64 percent to the senator’s 48.36, Rousseff underlined that she was committed to looking for «the changes and reforms that Brazil demands.»
But she added that any measures taken would be the fruit of extensive talks for which she sought to include the entire country.
«I cannot make a list of measures and send them out. The right path is the opening of dialogue,» the Workers Party candidate insisted.
«The country’s current situation allows for the opening of a space for talks, with all sectors, and to see the proposal which are out there. Changes will be made. That was the voters’ message and that is my commitment.»
