‘Blue’ dollar jumps to 15.70 pesos; formal rate falls back to 8.44 pesos

The informal rate climbed ten cents to close at 15.70 pesos today, following US Judge Thomas Griesa’s decision to hold Argentina in contempt of court for evading his rulings in the longstanding dispute with the country’s holdout creditors.

The ascent follows last week 75-cent climb, which was temporarily countered yesterday with a 15-cent fall back.

Meanwhile, the blue-chip swap advanced 29 cents to close at 15.20 pesos and the stock exchange rate advanced two cents to 14.99 pesos.

In the meantime, the US dollar fell back five cents to end at 8.44 pesos today in banks and foreign exchange offices of the City, amid active market intervention by the Central Bank and Banco Nación bank after the formal rate advanced three cents yesterday.

Grain exporters sold off over u$s 291 millions last week, totalling u$s 18,616.5 millions in 2014.
