Most retail shops and supermarkets will be closed today, although many cinemas and all restaurants are expected to remain open as Retail Workers’ Day is celebrated.
The day was moved from its traditional September 26 date to today by the sector chambers and unions in order to avoid harming sales on the usually profitable weekend. Miguel Calvete, representing the Chinese Supermarkets, announced that most of the stores are likely to open today.
Employees who work regardless of the holiday are set to receive double compensation for the day.
