Body found near Buenos Aires highway identified as Melina Romero

Investigators searching for Melina Romero have confirmed that a body found on the edge of the ‘Camino del Buen Ayre’ highway is the remains of the missing teenager.

Romero, who had disappeared almost one month ago sparking an extensive manhunt in Greater Buenos Aires, was identified by forensic police at the scene who confirmed that the 17-year-old was wearing the same clothes at the time she went missing.

Investigators also revealed that the body was in a «very bad state», with advanced signs of decomposition.

Authorities approached the area, located behind a prison in the San Martin district and which belongs to sanitation company CEAMSE, after receiving an emergency call from a passer-by, who saw the lifeless body of Romero in a refuse bag on the banks of the Morón stream.

Romero, who lived with her mother and siblings in El Palomar, disappeared on the night of August 23. That evening the teenager had celebrated her 17th birthday in a nightclub located in San Martín, and was last seen on security cameras leaving the establishment with four men.
