President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff asserted that unemployment and recession would be the result should Marina Silva’s economic programme be put into place, as the two presidential candidates clashed in a debate ahead of the first round of elections on October 5.
Silva, running for the Socialist Party, in turn criticised the incumbent’s economic management and her record with state-owned petroleum company Petrobras, claiming that her rival did not recognise Brazil’s problems.
«Economic stability was Brazilian society’s achievement which, unfortunately, was neglected by president Dilma’s government,» Silva fired.
The Workers’ Party member, meanwhile, focussed her criticisms on Silva’s political support.
«The line is short. This cannot be resolved by pretty words or kind intentions. Without political support, without discussion or negotiation, the lady will not manage to approve big programs in Brazil,» she asserted.
