BA province gov’t to meet with striking teachers on Wednesday

The Buenos Aires province government announced a face-to-face meeting with teachers’ unions on Wednesday and urged them to call off the 48-hour strike launched today.

Provincial Cabinet Chief Alberto Pérez said the government seeks to “solve all problems” but reiterated that the walk-out is “out of context” and confirmed that those who join the strike will suffer salary deductions.

“We will be calling [teachers] for Wednesday, to work out together the issues they are raising,” the official said but he stressed that “four months after having agreed on a 32% [increase] in collective wage negotiations, the strike is out of context.”
