Venezuela’s president Nicolás Maduro headed the celebrations of what would have been Hugo Chávez’s 60th birthday today and said “a little bird” told him the deceased socialist leader is “happy and full of love”.
“A little bird approached me again and told me […] that the commander [Chávez] is happy and full of love from the loyalty of his people,” Maduro said while presiding an homage to the former president in Sabaneta, hometown of Chávez.
In 2013, amid the presidential campaign, Maduro became the target of criticism and jokes when he said that Chávez had come to him as a bird.
The commander’s birthday celebrations began on Sunday night, with a public homage where Maduro sang “Happy Birthday” and blew the candles of a cake. Early on Monday fireworks lighted up the sky of Caracas and in the afternoon, the firing of cannons signalled the exact time of Chávez death on March 5, 2013 and military parades saluted the commander’s casket.
