Riquelme completes first training session with Argentinos Juniors

Juan Román Riquelme trained today for the first time since completing a move back to Nacional B team Argentinos Juniors, after agreeing an 18-month contract with the club based in La Paternal, Buenos Aires City.

The 36-year-old playmaker took to the field in a UTA facility used by Argentinos around 4pm, and was included in the main group of players who chatted with coach Claudio Borghi.

Later Riquelme jogged for 20 minutes and moved on to work in the gymnasium alongside technical staff Diego Placente and Mariano Herrón and players Martín Zapata and Facundo Coria.

Román started his career in the Bicho’s famed academy, although it was with Boca that the star would make his debut in 1996 and become one of Argentine football’s most recognisable figures.

But on completing a free transfer yesterday, the player became Argentinos’ 10th signing of the winter as the club aim to make an instant return to the Primera División following relegation in May.

Adrián Gabbarini (Newell’s), Cristian Álvarez (San Martín de San Juan), Matías Caruzzo (Universidad de Chile), Ezequiel Garré (Almirante Brown), Cristian Ledesma (River Plate), Martín Zapata (Independiente), Germán Basualdo (Almirante Brown), Gonzalo Castillejos (Rosario Central) and Chilean Daud Gazale (Dorados de Sinaloa, México) are the other new faces who will be seen this year in the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona.
