Capitanich congratulates national team, condemns violence at the Obelisc

The Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich congratulated the national team for its performance at Brazil’s World Cup and condemned the vandalism that marred yesterday’s celebrations in downtown Buenos Aires.

“We would like to congratulate the technical staff of the team headed by [Alejandro] Sabella, and all the players for their huge effort,” Capitanich said in his daily press briefing at Government House. The Kirchnerite official pointed out “the pride the people feel for their national team”.

He also repudiated the violence that broke out in Buenos Aires City and other places like Mar Del Plata and La Plata last night, amid peaceful celebrations, although he said that “they cannot stain the popular and spontaneous celebration of the Argentine people” in the country’s first World Cup final in 24 years.

Capitanich specified that about 100 people had been detained at 3.30 a.m.today.
