The WBC and WBA world welterweight boxing champion Floyd Mayweather has confirmed that he will grant Santa Fe native Marcos ‘Chino’ Maidana a rematch on September 13, after the pair fought a tense bout earlier this year.
Although an official press release is yet to be released, the unbeaten champion announced the return fight today during the BET awards ceremony, which honours African-American artists and figures.
The bout, according to Mayweather, will take place in the Nevada city of Las Vegas.
«September 13, back to business, Marcos Maidana vs Floyd Mayweather Part II,» the boxer told the audience.
‘Then in May, I’ll have a big surprise for you.»
Maidana had challenged Mayweather to a rematch after losing on a split decision in their last bout, during which the US native was visibly marked by the Argentine.
