Welsh shopper Rebecca Gallagher was looking for the washing instructions of a new dress she had bought for £10 at Primark’s Swansea store when she found a heartbreaking message sewn on the label. “Forced to work exhausting hours,” it read.
Gallagher was shocked by the discovery. «It was stitched by hand to say ‘Forced to work exhausting hours’ and sewn in with the other normal labels,” she told the South Wales Evening Post.
“I dread to think that my summer top may be made by some exhausted person toiling away for hours in some sweatshop abroad,» she added.
After the discovery, she said she phoned Primar about the message but that after being put on hold for 15 minutes she was cut off.
Local media reports the 25-year old woman vowed never to wear the dress again. “[The message] makes me think that it was a cry for help to let us people in Britain know what is going on,” she said
About a year ago, the Rana Plaza building, that housed five factories producing garments for Primark and other high street brands, collapsed in Bangladesh killing 1,129 workers.
