Economy Minister Axel Kicillof and ANSES chief Diego Bossio held a press conference to provide the details of a bill the government has submitted to Congress, involving a new moratorium of pensions.
Minister Kicillof was first to address reporters and question opposition sectors that criticize the government’s decision to increase public spending which the Kirchnerite administration considers an “investment”.
“During the 90s, the main objective of the government and the opposition was to lower spending,” Kicillof said.
In that sense, the head of Argentina’s economic affairs defended the administration of the sustainability fund of the social security system which he said has been “excellently run by the state,” hitting “14 billion pesos.”
According to Kicillof, the inclusion of direct beneficiaries to the new pension moratorium will “pour out all to consumption,” warning “those who ask us to reduce social spending that it is that (consumption) which makes the economic wheel turn.”
Yesterday, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced the Executive had asubmitted to Congress a bill to implement a moratorium on pensions in order to achieve the pensions universalization, a measure which would reach 473 thousand people.
«This moratorium, which must be approved by Congress, will allow the universalization of the Argentine pensions system,» the head of state affirmed in a televised speech from the Government House.
