River Plate coach Ramón Díaz has resigned from his post just one week after winning the Final Championship, after meeting today with club directors.
An official statement from the Núñez club confirmed today that the La Rioja native, who was in his third spell as River coach and who broke a six-year trophy doubt with the Final trophy, would not be in charge for the coming season.
«River Plate informs that on the current date, the institution’s president Rodolfo D’Onofrio; president of the Football Council, Matías Patanian; and technical secretary, Enzo Francescoli, met with Ramón Díaz, who was accompanied by his son Emiliano and by his agent,» the missive affirms.
«In the meeting, the trainer asserted that he had achieved his objective, and for that motive he has taken the decision to break his links with the club.»
River also revealed that Gustavo Zapata would take over coaching duties on an interim basis while a successor to ‘El Pelado’ was sought.
