Once train crash victim honoured outside courthouse

Families and friends of the Once train crash paid tribute to their loved ones this morning, marking 26 months since the railway tragedy that claimed 51 lives and left almost 800 injured. The commemorative event took place at the Comodoro Py courthouse in Buenos Aires City where ex transport secretaries Ricardo Jaime and Juan Pablo Schiavi among other defendants currently face trial over their political responsibility in the accident.
At 8.32 sharp, sirens sounded outside the tribunal marking the time of the 2012 crash and commemorating those who lost their lives when a train collided against another one that remained stranded in the BA City Once station.
During Tuesday’s hearings, witnesses and survivors Natalia Meza and Norma Barrientos along with the mother of Karina Altamirano who died in the crash will bring their testimony to the court.
On Monday, Jaime and Schiavi defended the government’s subsidies policy and rejected negligence allegations.
