Bikers must use helmets and refractive vests showing the license plate of their vehicles, a decision of Buenos Aires province government that becomes mandatory as for today also for motorcycle escorts. The new regulation was announced earlier this month as part of the security emergency decreed by Governor Daniel Scioli to battle crime.
Governor Scioli wants controls to be enforced “rapidly” in the whole province, Deputy Government Secretary Emiliano Baloira said, not only to improve road safety but to “contribute to citizenship security” too.
Baloira pointed out vests cost 20-25 pesos and can be purchased in supermarkets, auto spare parts shops and street stands.
Among sanctions established in the new regulation are:
The seizure of bikes and registers
500-5,000 pesos fines
On April 5, Governor Daniel Scioli decreed a 12-month security emergency in Argentina’s most populated province.
“Emergency is the legal instrument we have to speed up the investments we need to do to face the kind of crime we are dealing with and the decisions we need to make,” Scioli told reporters and explained the anti-crime measures would involve an investment of 600 million pesos in security equipment through the Banco Provincia financing.
Furthermore, retired agents from both the provincial police and penitentiary system have been called to rejoin prevention actions.
