Labour rights were left set aside for a bit during a press conference held by anti-government union leaders this morning when CGT leaders Hugo Moyano and Luis Barrionuevo along with CTA’s Pablo Micheli accused the federal government of driving no “active” policies to combat crime.
Security will be one of the slogans of tomorrow’s walkout as crime levels affect “all the society.”
“The level of insecurity we are facing is unbearable,” Moyano said, the first to bring up crime into today’s press conference when anti-Kirchnerites unions ratified the April 10 general strike, adding that workers were afraid of “going to work” because they feared “being killed.”
“We are living a situation of degradation that affects all workers, who are beaten and robbed. Such violence is putting the physical integrity of people, of our sons at risk. The state is absolutely absent in security issues,” head of the CTA Pablo Micheli added as CGT’s and gastronomic workers leader Luis Barrionuevo said union leaders had the “duty” to denounce the security crisis.
The «state absence» line has been strongly questioned by the government following the tragic lynching cases that resulted in the killing of an 18-year-old in the city of Rosario some weeks ago and the beating of other alleged thieves by groups of citizes who decided to take justice into their own hands.
Analyzing the violent events, spposition leader and head of the Renewal Front Sergio Massa said they were a result of the «state absence» prompting strong criticism by Kirchnerites.
