Vice-president Amado Boudou today represented Argentina in the third Nuclear Security Summit, where he urged fellow representatives to recognise nation’s rights to develop atomic technologies.
During his speech, Boudou affirmed that the country «has shown and continues to show unmistakeable signs of its commitment to the peaceful use of nuclear technology, to non-proliferation and to safety,» during the congress held in The Hague.
The politician also underlined what he described as «the inalienable right» to develop such technologies.
«The many efforts against terrorism, which we support and participate in actively, should not become an indirect means of limiting a country’s sovereign rights to technological autonomy,» Boudou explained.
«Argentina is committed to the highest standards of physical and technological safety.»
The vice-president moved on to highlight the regional importance of Argentina and Brazil in controlling the movement of nuclear materials in Latin America, as well as the nation’s adherence to the no-proliferation treaty.
«Argentina totally endorses the message of The Hague,» he emphasised, given that «it represents the result of a joint, co-operative effort from every country in order to achieve political consensus.»
