Buenos Aires City Mayor Mauricio Macri.
First, it was President Kirchner who showed a more conciliatory spirit in her political relationship with opposition leader Mauricio Macri, admitting that she had spoken with the Mayor of the City of Buenos Aires. “With the President, I resumed dialogue some months ago,” Mauricio Macri has now revealed.
In statements to media, Mauricio Macri considered today dialogue with the federal government has “improved”, with Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich and his counterpart in the City administration Horacio Rodríguez Larreta discussing “important government issues.”
In her address to Congress earlier this month, President Kirchner had said that the Mayor of Argentina’s capital had called her to analyze occupations in the Villa Lugano neighbourhood.
“For those who say I don’t speak with anybody, Macri and I agreed that if the attorney had shown up at the right time, the eviction could have been possible,” the head of state affirmed as she referred to a land dispute in the suburb of Villa Lugano where hundreds of families occupied a piece of land in demand for urgent solutions to the City’s housing crisis some weeks ago.
Meanwhile, cabinet chief of the Mauricio Macri administration Horacio Rodríguez Larreta revealed that dialogue with the Kirchnerite government has progressed since the appointment of Jorge Capitanich as the head of Kirchner’s ministerial team.
“We are optimistic. We are planning works to carry out together. There is a specific agenda that involves national issues such as inflation, drug-trafficking and crime. Let’s hope it continues that way,” Rodríguez Larreta told reporters back in December.
