Jorge Capitanich will be attending Congress today to introduce a report on the federal government’s actions for the first time as cabinet chief. The head of ministers took office on November 20 last year after being appointed by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner to replace Juan Manuel Abal Medina.
In his parliamentary address scheduled for 2 pm this afternoon, Capitanich is also expected to answer queries by senators, as established by Argentina’s National Constitution in its 101 article.
As he marked today his 79th press conference at the government house since he has elected to head Ms. Kirchner’s ministerial team, Jorge Capitanich defended the government’s “communication agenda” saying his routine brief to the press was “no daily suicide as some reporters say.”
“Some reporters talk about daily suicide but they confuse it with the defense of a personal conviction about a political project,” the cabinet chief said this morning explaining it is “positive for Argentina’s democracy to set a daily communication strategy in order to inform the population on the scope of the public policies, whether they agree with (the government’s) angle or not.”
Right after Jorge Capitanich assumed his post in November 2013, the Kirchnerite administration decided to change its communication strategy with Jorge Capitanich holding a press conference everyday, setting a dividing line with his predecessor Juan Manuel Abal Medina who rarely spoke to media. The political/media turnaround came also after the Kirchnerite defeat in October’s PASO primaries.
