Defending champion San Lorenzo won its second straight match yesterday as it beat Argentinos Juniors 2-0 and continued improving since its disappointing first round defeat against Olimpo.
Estudiantes de La Plata returned to the top of the standings and continued with its perfect start with a 2-1 victory over Lanús.
In a match for the third round of the Final Tournament, playmaker Leandro Romagnoli and striker Mauro Matos scored for San Lorenzo at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in La Paternal.
It was an even match until the 42nd minute, when the visitors made an excellent team play and broke the draw. Ángel Correa received the ball inside the box and passed it to Romagnoli, who was unmarked and put Edgardo Bauza’s team ahead.
In the second half, it was all for San Lorenzo. Argentinos, which lost its second straight match, seemed to be shocked by the goal minutes before halftime and could never find the way to equalize.
The 18-year-old Correa also assisted Matos in the second goal for San Lorenzo. The former All Boys striker received the ball from the attacking midfielder and sent it home with an accurate finish.
At the Ciudad de La Plata stadium, Guido Carrillo netted both goals for Estudiantes, the second with a penalty, in the 10th and 62nd minutes, respectively. Uruguayan Santiago Silva had equalized for Lanús just before the end of the first half.
Estudiantes, which lead the standings with nine points, finished the game with ten players as Jonathan Silva was sent off in the 29th.
Earlier, Colón earned very important points as it defeated Quilmes 2-0 and leapfrogged them in the relegation standings.
Gabriel Graciani put the visitors ahead in the 21st with a fierce shot from outside the box. Lucas Landa doubled the difference three minutes later with a header.
Ricardo Caruso Lombardi made his debut as Quilmes’ new coach
