The federal government is moving forward to step up its pressure over private-sector retailers to fight inflation.
Cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich has announced the Kirchnerite administration is analyzing a “legislative revision” to stop “dominant positions” that lead to a “disproportionate” raise of prices, hitting hard on workers’ purchase power.
In his daily brief to the press at the Casa Rosada presidential palace, the head of ministers renewed the government’s criticism of “some economic players” that carry out “speculative” actions. These groups, Capitanich said, decide on prices “the way they want” negatively impacting on products’ value chain while some “unscrupulous business leaders and retailers” increase prices “just in case,” thus affecting consumers.
