Buenos Aires province teachers’ unions today confirmed they will maintain their demand of a 35 percent wage hike for this year and insisted that school classes won’t begin given the results of the negotiations with the administration of Daniel Scioli.
The secretary-general of the Buenos Aires province Teachers’ Union (UDOCBA) Miguel Ángel Díaz this morning came on stage to warn “school classes will not begin” while there is no answer from authorities to their wage demands.
«They are leading us to a nationwide strike because we haven’t had any news about our salaries,” the union leader warned.
In statements to a radio station, Díaz stressed “there are many governors who see themselves as candidates for 2015 but are not guaranteeing the public education in their provinces.”
«We haven’t received any answer from the government. We have meetings with authorities where nothing is solved and they end up blaming someone else. They are cornering us while the beginning of classes approaches, but we will react with a protest,” he added.
Meanwhile, the head of SUTEBA teachers’ union Roberto Baradel considered “difficult” the beginning of classes amid the provincial government’s “lack of decision.”
