Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich urged business and union leaders today to have a “reasonable behaviour” in order to halt the ongoing price hikes on a variety of goods
.
Moreover, he assured “all the conditions are given to avoid further price hikes” in line with yesterday’s remarks made by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner who blasted business leaders for the “capital drain” and for “raising prices” extending her criticism to unions which “do not give support” but demand salary improvements.
In his usual press conference at the Government House, Capitanich, however, denied there is a break up between the national administration and the labor unions and recalled the increase in the number of union members was made possible due to the policies implemented by the government.
«In Argentina everybody make comments. Business leaders criticize, union leaders give their opinions and criticize, but we cannot consider each criticism as a break up because it’s part of the democratic exercise,” he stressed.
Capitanich stated the government can “encourage, motivate imports, but cannot replace the unscrupulous behaviour by those who for example, raise prices.”
He reiterated the government is working with different sectors to avoid further price hikes of meat, medicine, construction equipment, and school supplies.
«Next Friday we will inform the prices of the construction supplies agreed with companies,” he said explaining the government is in the midst of negotiations with the pharmaceutical and meat sectors and expect to reach new price deals.
