INDEC: Supermarket, shopping mall sales increase 29% in 2013

shoppingSales in supermarkets and shopping centers went up almost 29 percent during 2013 compared to the previous 12 months, the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC) revealed today.

Shopping centers sales increased 28.9% in 2013, while supermarket sales rose 28.6 percent, according to the report.

During December 2013, supermarket sales increased 49.3 percent in relation to the same month in 2012, producing revenues of $ 17.52 billion. Baked goods (88.7%), electronics (55.9%) and dairy products (45.8%) were the main sectors responsible for the growth.

Shopping center sales increased 28.8 percent in December against the same month last year, reaching $3.42 billion in sales. The main growing sectors were entertainment (77.4%), clothing (48.9%) and pharmaceutical goods (40.8%).
