Power and water companies raised their bills by 27 percent since the beginning of this year, while thousands of users are still suffering from blackouts in their homes.
According to Noticias Argentinas news agency, the Federal Government led by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner is considering removing the subsidies within the metropolitan area, where rates are lower than the rest of the country.
Governors Juan Manuel Utubey from Salta, and José Alperovich from Tucumán, signed the authorizations to effectuate the increases.
Aguas del Norte (Salta province) Water Company will invoice prices with 27 percent increment since January, 7.5 percent in April and other 7.5 percent in July.
While Edesa, a power company located in that region announced they will raise their rates in 19 percent.
In Tucumán, clean water and sewer bills will be increased by 20 percent since April, however this project found an important rejection by the citizens and national lawmakers.
Opposition members Federico Romano Norri and Roberto Sanchez told:
“Citizens who don’t have water supply deserve more than a statement of a bill rise by the Governor,” he argued.
“Details about the investment policy, and specifications regarding what exactly are they doing in order to resolve the problems of the people are required,” they added.
In Buenos Aires province followed the high temperatures registered during the weekend, hundreds of families remained without electricity in their neighborhoods.
