The cabinet chief fired back at the farming sector that has questioned the government’s decision to allow the export of 500,000 tons of wheat. In his daily brief to the press, Jorge Capitanich stated the Kirchnerite administration carries out an “extremely rational, common sense” policy to administrate such “strategic resource” and guarantee the supply of a “vital good” to all Argentineans.
According to the head of ministers, the Liaison Board –that staged a 108-day protest over export duties back in 2008 becoming a fierce enemy of the Cristina Fernández de Kirchner administration-, has been complaining about the government’s commercialization agenda. Capitanich then wondered about the position of rural leaders now that a new export scheme has been launched.
Indeed, the Liaison Board yesterday released a statement considering the announcement “a clearly false declaration.”
“Neither the Board nor Argentines have a reasonable price for bread that matches their income level, nor do farmers have prices according to their effort and the cost of materials and inflation, which pound away incessantly,” the farming sector grouping said, adding: “Never will we be satisfied with the drastic reduction of the sown area of wheat or the lack of a transparent market that impedes fulfillment of commitments taken on by farmers.”
