After a two-week heat wave that led to record power usage and thousands forced to face dark and water shortages, rains have brought relief to citizens in Buenos Aires city and surrounding areas with a maximum temperature estimated at 20 C° for today.
Over the past days, the neighborhoods of Almagro, Caballito, Recoleta, Parque Centenario, Balvanera and Flores among others in Argentina’s capital as well as several areas in the province of Buenos Aires experienced –some of them continue to experience- power outages as the South American country goes through its worst heat wave in its history.
In the meantime, the Cristina Fernández de Kirchner administration stepped up its pressure on electricity distributors Edenor and Edesur accusing companies of disinvestment. Planning and Public Services Minister Julio De Vido warned about sanctions snowball.
But 2014 seems to have begun with blistering heat showing signs of letting up as rains and winds are finally pushing down temperatures. The National Meteorological Service has predicted a minimum temperature of 14 C° and a maximum of 26 C° for tomorrow.
