Amid criticism of the recently designated Army chief by certain human rights organizations, Jorge Capitanich ratified the government’s position to have a parliamentary committee addressing César Milani’s promotion to ieutenant-general.
According to the cabinet chief, there is “no sentence against” the military and the “presumption of innocence” should prevail.
Acknowledging the stance by some social and human rights groups that have strongly questioned the appointment of Milani -who served as a second lieutenant in the so-called Operation Independence back in 1975, an action that set the basis for the violent and atrocious methods the 1976-1983 military dictatorship carried out to persecute, torture and disappear thousands here-, Capitanich explained his designation will have to be ratified by the Senate Appointments Committee today.
«If there is a condemnation of Milani, the government will proceed in accordance,» the head of ministers affirmed in his everyday address to reporters at the Casa Rosada presidential palace this morning.
