Opposition PRO party would support the agreement over the expropriation of YPF if the deal is set under “reasonable parameters,” the Buenos Aires City mayor said today.
Mauricio Macri considered the government’s announcement that it has moved closer to settle the dispute with Repsol over the 2012 expropriation of the 51 percent stake of the Spanish firm in YPF “positive,” saying the agreement would prevent legal disputes that could cost the country millons in compensation.
Still, the head of the PRO party -which had opposed to the expropriation-, demanded the federal government to explain “how” it plans to carry out the “explotaition” of Argentina’s rich non-conventional oil and gas areas of Vaca Muerta in the Southern province of Neuquén.
In statements to media, Macri also referred to his coming meeting with Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich. While affirming he will be assisting the reunion with “enthusiasm and optimism,” he warned he expects a “real agenda” to discuss the issues that affect not only the city’s 3 million residents but the “10 million” that “live” in Argentina’s capital “during the week.”
“Transportation, security, hydraulic issues, education, health, all the matters that have to do with the 10 million people that live in the City during the week” must be in the agenda, the mayor said.
Jorge Capitanich yesterday confirmed he will be holding bilateral talks with opposition figures Mauricio Macri and the governor of the Santa Fe province Antonio Bonfatti, who have called for audiences within the margins of the dialogue stage the cabinet chief officially kicked off last week when assuming duties.
