Camila Speziale granted a telephone interview to a local TV cable show and said she feels a “stronger woman” after being held detained in Russia for more than a month. Still, the Greenpeace activist affirmed she is “worried’ about her future.
“I can not say I am not worried about what could happen because I am on bail. I was afraid of how I could react because it was a limit situation,” the 21-year-old said.
Speaking from Saint Petersburg, where she waits for the trial against her to start, Camila reaffirmed her opposition to oil drilling in the Arctic saying she was more “outraged” after seeing “with her own eyes» how hydrocarbon activities threaten the region’s environment.
“It is not fair to go to prison for making good to humanity,” the Argentinean told reporters.
Greenpeace activists from New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, Canada, Italy, France, Finland and Poland were each granted a 2 million rouble ($61,300) bail in hearings over their detention since the September protest at an offshore Russian oil rig.
Argentine Hernán Pérez Orsi waits in St. Petersburg as well after being released last week.
