The head of Aerolíneas Argentinas Mariano Recalde has affirmed that the company’s goal, as requested by president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, was to provide a quality service over profit.
«The Aerolíneas Argentinas objective is not to make money. The president challenged us to recover the service and improve on it,» the civil servant explained when questioned on the deficit the airline runs.
Recalde went on to state that the goal had been reached: «when we took control Aerolíneas carried 5 million passengers [a year]; we will finish [2013] with 8.5 million and we hope to reach 10 million in 2014.»
The chief executive clarified that «the operating deficit will be 250 million dollars, a third of what it used to be.»
Questioned on the recent changes to the national cabinet, Recalde underlined his support for CFK’s decision.
«I received the changes with great joy and expectation due to Cristina’s return, with great energy,» he asserted, adding that the new faces «give the team more energy in order to deepen the transformation.»
